Celebrate With Midsomer in the Park

The Somer Valley Adventure Play and Skate Park is highlighting the a mix of fun activities for everyone to enjoy this June.

 Visitors to the park, next to the Council’s South Wansdyke Sports Centre in Midsomer Norton, can take part in workshops in radio broadcasting, film-making and a range of creative and cycling fun. The programme of events is organised through the “Quest” project – part of the cultural programme to celebrate 2012 across the district www.myquestbathnes.org.uk.

Workshops for children and young people lead up to and culminate in the main “Battle for the Winds” performance supporting the Town Council Midsomer Norton Fayre on Saturday 23 June.

Free pre-event workshops at the Park:

  • Saturday 9 June, 11am-2pm: Somer Valley FM live radio training to cover the Somer Fayre event on 23 June in the Park (ages 13-19 – booking essential via[email protected], by calling Dom Chambers on 01761 411755 or visiting Kate at BA3 Midsomer Norton)
  • Friday 15 June, 5pm-7pm: Quest film training and making with Suited & Booted film company, (ages 13-19 – booking essential via[email protected] or 01225 396059 or sign up with Kate at BA3 Midsomer Norton
  • Saturday 16 June, 10.30am-1.30pm:

Wheels workshops with Sustrans and Wheels for All

“Bling your bike” Wansdyke Play Association and Quest t-shirt and banner making ready for the parade at the Somer Fayre.

Midsomer Norton Fayre presents “Battle for the Winds” at Somer Valley Skate and Adventure Play Park – Saturday 23 June; 12noon-4pm:

The Battle for the Winds is a unique theatrical tour to celebrate the opening of Weymouth Olympic & Paralympic sailing events. The event includes:

  •  12 noon Theatre performance “Battle for the Winds” including circus & street theatre
  • Wheels Parade in Gullock Tyning (bring your own favourite wheels) – will include Penny Farthing cyclists
  • Creative workshops by Wansdyke Play Association
  • Midsomer Extravaganza – all day craft fair at the Somer Centre plus refreshments
  • Dance tasters Parkour displays and mini sound stage
  • Live talent showcase  – MC competition (sponsored by BA3, MOJO and Midsomer BMX)
  • Wheels for All inclusive cycling – bikes and trikes – free taster sessions

The events have been funded by Bath & North East Somerset Council in partnership with the Quest project, Midsomer Norton Town Council, Wansdyke Play Association and Somer Valley FM.
