Students will get a head start in their chosen career by competing against their classmates in the College’s MiniBuild Competition.
Level 1 Carpentry and Joinery students are being encouraged to showcase their work and have it judged by professional craftspeople to boost their confidence and abilities.
Up to 15 students are expected to take part in the three-hour challenge at the College’s Construction Skills Centre.
From scratch they will have to construct a four-joint timber framed structure to be in with a chance of winning new tools and equipment.
Carpentry Lecturer Graham Derham said they always encouraged students to enter competitions to help prepare them for the world of work.
He said: “We have some very able students and it’s great for them to get the recognition they deserve.
“They will be working in the workshop under timed conditions and we are looking for the highest standard of work possible.
“This is the first year we have held a carpentry competition like this for first year students and we’re hoping this challenge will inspire them and future classes to push their talents further.”
The competition winner will get a trophy and a £100 voucher for tool company Axminster Power Tool Centre. The students who place second and third will get £40 and £20 vouchers for B&Q.
City of Bath College’s MiniBuild Competition takes place at the College’s Construction Skills Centre on Monday, April 8th.
