Two recycling can crushers have been brought to the city by the Council and Alupro – the Aluminium Packaging Recycling Organisation – to encourage more drinks can recycling.
The crushers will be positioned at Royal Victoria Park and Alice Park. They had been previously used at the Olympic sailing in Weymouth.
Councillor David Dixon (Lib-Dem, Oldfield), Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said, “The Council is pleased to be joining forces with Alupro to support the Every Can Counts campaign by bringing the can crushers to Bath.
“This adds to our street recycling facilities that can be found around the city centre and which have already stopped 7 tonnes of waste going to landfill since they were installed. The can crushers are fun to use and can hold five times as many cans than normal receptacles.”
To launch the can crushers, the Council and Alupro received a small amount of help from the Theatre Royal – quite literally as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs who demonstrated how to use the machines.
Remember, even if you don’t use the can crushers this Christmas, you can still get involved in recycling your festive waste. Find out more at www.bathnes.gov.uk/wasteservices
