Campaign Started For New Playgrounds

A campaigner in Peasedown St John wants to see more investment in children’s play parks in the local area and is starting a campaign.

Becci McCafferty, who is standing as the Peasedown 1st candidate in Thursday’s Parish Council by-election, and a mother of young children, said: “One of the issues that a lot of people have spoken to me about over the last few months is that they’d like to see more for primary-aged school children to do.

“We have a number of play parks in the village, but most of the play equipment is more than 10 years old, is becoming rusty and needs maintenance work. Instead of continually repairing broken equipment I’d like to see money invested in new apparatus such as slides and swings.”

Peasedown St John is home to three children’s play parks; Beacon Park, Eckweek Lane Play Area and the Recreation Field Playground.

Just recently, money has been made available from the Wellow Lane housing development for recreational activities. In total, almost £200,000 can be spent on parks and public open spaces. Becci added; “I’m keen for some of this money to be spent on our play areas. Our children are not just the future, but play an important role in the Peasedown St John of today.

“If I get elected to the Parish Council on Thursday I’ll be working with other councillors to ensure this money is spent on the things that matter to local people.”
