The city of Bath will awake to the sound of the Abbey church bells on the morning of Saturday 25th August, for the paralympic flame celebration.

The Abbey’s bell ringers will join in the Bath and North East Somerset Council’s Paralympic Flame Celebration at the Recreation Ground, Bath, led by Will Willans, the Abbey’s Tower Master.

The Abbey’s bells will ring for half an hour from 8.00am-8.30am. Bath is one of only 34 cities nationwide to host a celebration ahead of the Paralympic Games in London.

Will Willans, Bath Abbey’s Tower Master, explained: “We wanted to join in the city’s Paralympic Flame Celebration, and to show our support, on behalf of the Abbey and the city as a whole, for the British Paralympic team, who have been based at the University of Bath.

“This is our way of making sure that they head off to London for the Paralympics knowing how proud we are and that our thoughts and prayers are with them. They are an inspiration to us all.“
