Bath’s Pancake Race Is Back For 2013

Get your frying pans at the ready as a flippin’ fantastic charity pancake race is returning to Bath for 2013!

The search is on for teams of four people who want to put their skills to the test in order to get their hands on the coveted Frying Pan Trophy.

Bath’s Flippin’ Pancake Race on Shrove Tuesday (February 12th) will see relay teams of sprinters haring up and down Union Street tossing pancakes as they go.

The event has been organised by Fringe Arts Bath in conjunction with Bath BID (Business Improvement District). It is supported by City of Bath College.

Scarlett Mosnier, City of Bath’s Students’ Union Activities Leader and Fringe Arts Bath committee member, was keen to resurrect the annual fundraiser after an absence of four years.

She said: “I never got to see Bath’s previous pancake races, the last one was in 2009 but it feels like I was there as I’ve heard all the rumours.

“I have always wanted to get this race going again because I love nonsense and this is a positive way to enjoy complete nonsense.

“I would encourage everyone to get involved. People need to get together to come up with teams of four and join in.”

The £20 team entry fee will go directly to the Food Cycle charity, which creates nutritious meals for people affected by poverty in Bath.

Stewards will be on hand to enforce strict race rules, which include no cheating and no eating of the pancakes, however trips and falls take place at the owner’s own risk.

Each person has to flip the pancake at least five times during each leg of the race and dropped pancakes must be picked up before people continue to run.

City of Bath College photography students will be on hand to capture all the action and excitement of the pancake race.

To coincide with the race, Brendan’s Crepe stall on SouthGate Street will be donating money from pancakes sold on the day to Food Cycle.
