A house in Bath was struck by a bolt of lightening during the short storm over the city this evening.

The address in The Oval, in Oldfield Park, was caught by the single bolt just after 8pm.

It was reported that there was a small fire at the property.

Avon Fire and Rescue sent three fire engines to the scene. Fire fighters dealt with the fire quickly and assessed the property for its safety. The female occupant was not hurt.

The storm only lasted a matter of minutes, but brought rain, hail, strong wind, thunder and lightning to the city.

At around 9.50pm a large bang was also heard in the Bathwick area. It was heard from as far away as Lansdown and the cause of the noise is thought to have been a lone large firework.

If you heard the bang or saw the lightning, we’d like to hear from you. Tweet us @NOWBath or email us [email protected].
