Students aged eight to adult from Bath Guitar School are busy practising some favourite festive tunes in readiness for their performance of  Christmas carols in Bath city centre during the Christmas Market (24 November – 11 December) to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

For the third year students will be joined by friends and family for the Bath-based music school’s charity Christmas busk in the Abbey Green Archway and Churchyard.    The group will be performing six Christmas songs including traditional carols such as Jingle Bells and We Wish You A Merry Christmas, and chart toppers like Merry Christmas Everybody by Slade, and Merry Christmas (War is Over) by John Lennon.

Visitors to Bath city centre should look out for the musicians in the evenings of Thursday 24 and Saturday 26 November, and Saturday 3 and Saturday 10 December.

Bath Guitar School Owner, Richard Perkins said: “The stars of the busk are the children who have been practising really hard to bring some festive cheer to Bath, and raise money for people living with cancer.  We will be adding lyric sheets and chord charts to our website, so anyone who fancies joining us and lending their vocal or guitar playing support is welcome.”

Macmillan Fundraising Manager, Sadie Moore said: “Nothing gets you into the spirit of the season like a visit to the Bath Christmas Market to pick up some festive treats, and the Bath Guitar School will be providing the perfect musical backdrop.  Keep your eyes and ears peeled for these budding musicians and help make a difference to people living with cancer this Christmas. ”

On average four people are diagnosed with cancer every day at the Bath RUH, and every one of those people will be supported by Macmillan in some way.  This could be as simple as receiving a folder full of information and advice to take home once the news of the diagnosis has sunk in, getting specialised care from one of the 19 Macmillan medical professionals at the RUH or financial advice from the Welfare and Benefits Advisors at the Bath CAB.
