Nearly 30 students from the City of Bath College have experienced the wonders of Italy on a trip to help further their studies.
The graphic design, photography and art and design NVQ Level 3 students visited Sorrento, Capri and Pompeii to soak up the country’s art and architecture.
The students recorded as much of the trip as they could by taking photographs and drawing and painting on their iPads.
The five-day trip was part of the ‘visual recording’ unit of their courses where students have to demonstrate they can record, collate and analyse information.
Art, design and graphics lecturer Claudia Pagliarani said: “We had a wonderful time in Italy, the students absolutely loved it.
“For some of them, it was their first time abroad so it was a real eye-opening experience.
“Parents have told us the students can’t stop talking about their time in Italy.”
The students and three members of staff stayed at a hotel in Sorrento and enjoyed tucking into the nightly three-course “absolutely delicious” Italian cuisine.
From Sorrento, they went on several day-trips including visits to Mount Vesuvius and Herculaneum, and a boat trip to the isle of Capri.
The students particularly enjoyed playing a bingo game where they won prizes for their snapshots. The bingo cards had 25 things to photograph including orange trees, cathedrals and pizzerias.
Photography lecturer Jo Sanders said: “They took hundreds and hundreds of photos.
“They produced some really great work, particularly street photography and when we went to Capri they captured the turquoise sea really well.”
