After the final stages of testing and training, Bath City Sound will be commencing its service from 11am on Monday 8th October, broadcasting from Bath Pavilion.
Initially it will feature a delicious and varied daytime line up with presenters that ooze passion and talent then slowly, introduce more Bath based radio talent over its weekend programming.
Included in the launch line up are Bath based TV presenter Charlie Vernon, former BBC news journalist Rebecca Waters, former head boy of Culverhay School and Olympic Torch carrier, James Eynon; and Matthew ‘Splatt’ Clifford that many will remember from Bath FM.
Vikkie Moule and Georgie Luton both of whom were educated at Bath’s Universities will be on air as well as the former Bath FM breakfast show host, Ian ‘Knocka’ Dore. He’ll be joined by fellow presenter, Caroline White. Even Merlin the station dog has his own 80s show!
Ian Dore, Station Curator and Presenter said: “It’s taken a long time to get to where we all wanted to be, but if a job is worth doing it’s worth doing well. Everyone acknowledges that and although it’s been a challenging few months, we are ready to rock and roll with some fine talent, oodles of support and plenty of passion. I am positive we can achieve great things for the community and youth of Bath and the troops are eager to get going. This is just the beginning and it’s very, very exciting.”
The youth of Bath and encouraged to get involved and as a testament of what can be achieved by the younger generation, the Sony Award winning double act Luke and Tom will be hosting the afternoon show. They scooped the award in the recent Sony Awards which is held annually at Grosvenor House and this prestigious radio accolade is the audio equivalent of an Oscar.
“I think it’s fair to say that this is the highest award a radio presenter, producer or a station can get and to have bagged one at such an early age is incredibly impressive. This just reiterates our thoughts of what can be done using the medium of radio in a positive and creative way. The best thing is it’s open to one and all and with us there are simply no barriers. Some of our number has had experience, some haven’t but that’s not a barrier, anyone can step up to the mark.”
Dan Copp, Station Manager of Phoenix Radio – Bath Community Academy said: “With Bath City Sound their vision is very clear in that they intend to throw the doors wide open for anyone and everyone to get involved and that can only be of positive benefit to other schools, individuals and community groups in the area. We are very excited to be providing a daily live show and see this project as a pioneering vision in the City. Working together is definitely the way forward and I hope that others will get onboard at the earliest opportunity.”
From Monday the station will be of streaming 24 hours a day with a plethora of exciting content available to download. You’ll be able to get it via your PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad and many other mobile devices. With the right piece of kit, even in your car! Local content will be specifically for Bath and surrounding areas though the station will be respecting the OFCOM defined boundaries of other community radio stations nearby.
There are elements of programming that have been purposely reserved for youth groups, schools, charities and other community groups so if you want to get involved with them, now is the time to act.
The best way is to go to their website at www.bathcitysound.com and via their mailing list they keep people updated with the very latest plans, developments and broadcasting opportunities. They will provide full contact details within the updates and because of the cost effective way of running, this is their primary means of communication ahead of the launch on Monday.
