A newly constructed art exhibition at the bottom of Milsom Street has been destroyed by vandals, who severely damaged the shed it was housed in.
The Art Box Gallery is a new travelling gallery based in the centre of Bath and the shed containing the work was only installed at the location on Friday.
The gallery was meant to be at the the bottom of Milsom Street between 9am-5.30pm on the 27th and 28th of April for visitors and local residents to explore art in a new and contemporary way.
Emily Finlay, one of the creators of the gallery told NOW Bath: “Our intention was to make art accessible to everyone, so we set up The Art Box Gallery which is a moveable gallery so that we can take exhibitions anywhere and everywhere.
“[We] are devastated by what has happened. We spent a lot of money and put so much hard work into preparing the shed, organising and curating the exhibition. We just can’t believe someone or a group of people could be so heartless and reckless.”
Luckily, the artwork that had been seen in the gallery was removed before the shed was locked up during Saturday evening.
It is hoped that local CCTV in the area will be key to finding the culprits. If you have any information regarding the incident, you can contact Avon and Somerset Police on 101.
