Avon and Somerset Police in Bath are asking people walking in the city to contact them if they find any obviously discarded clothing and personal property from a handbag.
They are investigating an incident in which a 21-year-old woman returned home early on Wednesday morning without the items. It is not clear if the woman had been assaulted or where her property went missing.
Detectives want to hear from anyone who may come across a pair of turquoise shorts zipped at the back, black tights and leopard print knickers.
They also want to find a Nokia Lumia mobile phone, a Bath Spa University identity card, a passport, a National Insurance card, a Santander bank card and a green WWF bag with a panda on the front.
Anyone who finds the items or has any information is asked to call Bath CID and quote reference 14705/13.
