Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for help identifying a man with distinctive tattoos who tried to steal a mobile phone from an 11-year-old girl.

It happened at around 3.15pm on Monday Nov 14 as the girl was walking home from school along Cotswold Road in Oldfield Park.

She had her mobile in her hand when a man suddenly approached her and tried to snatch it. When she resisted he slapped her across the head before running away.

The girl was not hurt but was left extremely shaken.

The man is described as white, in his early 20s, around 5ft 4ins tall and of slim build. He was wearing a hooded jumper with large horizontal stripes with the sleeves rolled up. He had a black raincoat tied around his waist, black tracksuit bottoms with vertical black and red stripes  down the outsides of both legs, and white trainers with white laces.

He has distinctive tattoos covering one of his arms from elbow to wrist. They are described as small horror-type images, including the face of Edvard Munch’s painting ‘The Scream’ and a skull. He wore chunky rings on the fingers of the same arm.

Anyone who can identify the tattoed man or who has any information is asked to contact Bath CID on 101 or call Crimestopppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
