Bath Abbey has been chosen once again to be used in a national broadcast on the BBC’s radio coverage.
On Wednesday 10th October at 3.30pm, Choral Evensong at Bath Abbey will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 – just four weeks after its morning service was heard by over a million listeners on BBC Radio 4.
The music will be performed by the Abbey Choir of Girls and Men, conducted by Peter King, the Abbey’s Director of Music. The organ will be played by the Abbey’s sub-organist, Marcus Sealy. The service will include music by Edward Elgar, Gabriel Jackson, Herbert Howells and William Byrd, and will be led by Jeremy Key-Pugh who is a Lay Reader and one of the Churchwardens.
Peter King, Bath Abbey’s Director of Music, said: “It is a great privilege to be invited to broadcast on national radio regularly, and in particular for BBC Radio 3’s Choral Evensong which is the longest running outside broadcast in the world and has long been considered the standard bearer for traditional church music. It promises to be a beautiful and inspiring service broadcast and will hopefully be enjoyed by many people all around the world.”
All are welcome to attend, but it is asked you ensure you are seated by 3.10pm. The broadcast will be at 3.30pm on Wednesday 10th October, on BBC Radio 3, and repeated at 4pm on Sunday 14th October.
