Music from the last 60 years rang out in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee at Bath Abbey last month raising a total of £6,000 for local charities.
Hundreds attended the special concert produced by Grenville Jones in collaboration with the Abbey to raise money for six of the city’s charities. Genesis Trust, Clean Slate, Project 28, Bath MIND, Focus Counselling and Off the Record: Young Carers Service each received £1,000 from a combination of ticket sales and a collection among the audience.
Jan Robertson from Focus Counselling said: “It was a very special evening and we were delighted by the overwhelming support we received from Grenville, Bath Abbey and the audience. The money raised will help us to continue to provide essential services to all the clients who come through our doors.”
The concert brought together some of Bath’s most talented young musicians and popular choirs including the talented 16 year old concert pianist Nurry Lee, award winning baritone, Tom Corbishley, and Grenville Jones’s brilliant 100 voice Bath Chorus choir. The music on the night ranged from traditional choral pieces to popular tunes by Andrew Lloyd Webber and a Beatles medley.
Charles Curnock, Bath Abbey’s Administrator said: “The concert was a wonderful celebration of HM the Queen’s remarkable reign. Everyone who attended really enjoyed themselves, and at the same time, we were able to give something back to the local community. We wanted a spectacular way to mark the Queen’s Jubilee, and what better way than with fantastic music and supporting some very worthy local causes.”
Grenville Jones who produced the concert in collaboration with Bath Abbey said: “Our target was to raise £1,000 for each of the six smaller local organisations chosen by Bath Abbey to make a real difference to their work. We have achieved this with the support of the people who packed the Abbey, the choirs and the soloists.
“So many people have said that is was a special evening for the City. Thank you to everyone who was involved.”
