Peter King, Bath Abbey’s Director of Music, has celebrated his 60th birthday with a charity concert which raised over £5,400.
The audience comprised members of the public, family and friends who generously donated money to Macmillan Cancer Trust, Dorothy House Hospice and the Genesis Trust with each of the three charities receiving £1,806.
Peter said: “I wanted to celebrate by doing what I enjoy most, which apart from dog walking, is playing the organ! It has been touching to see how generous people have been and I am sure the charities will put the money to good use.”
A member of the audience said: “It was a very special evening and hopefully a birthday Peter will remember for years to come. It’s typical of him to want to share his birthday with everyone and the atmosphere was fantastic. He had carefully chosen the music so there was something for everyone.”
Paul Solly from Genesis Trust said: “We have an excellent relationship with the Abbey, who are always very supportive of the work we do for the homeless and vulnerably housed in the city and are delighted to be one of the three charities chosen. The money will help us to continue our work with nine essential projects across the city to help relieve poverty and hardship for local people of Bath, including a drop-in centre located in the Abbey’s vaults.”
