A scheme to double the number of Alzheimer’s carers that The Peggy Dodd Centre can support is now under way thanks to a joint Bath Rotary and University of Bath RAG firework event.
A total of £10,000 has been donated to the centre in Combe Down to assist in their appeal for the installation of a lift.
David Hughesdon, Company Secretary at The Peggy Dodd Centre, said: “We are absolutely thrilled with this kick-start to our appeal. The installation of a lift will be an amazing help as it will allow the current work at the centre to be extended to the first floor and so double the number of carers in the area that we can support.”
The firework display at The Rec in November was a joint venture for the second year running between the Bath Rotary and students from the University’s RAG. The headline sponsor was the Bath Building Society. A total of £17,500 was raised for charity from the sale of tickets to the event as well as contributions on the night from those who attended.
Alan Keeling, Chairman of the Fireworks Committee at the Rotary Club of Bath said: “We are very pleased with the continued popularity of the fireworks display and the wonderful amount that has been raised for this most deserving local cause. As ever, we are very grateful to the generous Bathonians that contribute on the night to help kick-start this very worthwhile appeal.”
Sally Williamson and Matt Hammond, student event managers from RAG at the University of Bath Students’ Union added: “This is the second successful year that we have combined with the Rotary in helping to organise the firework display and we are once again proud of our students who come and support on the evening and donate to this worthy cause.”
Dick Jenkins, Chief Executive of the Bath Building Society commented: “A huge thanks to all those who attended the display and so generously donated back in November. This is a fantastic amount of money to have raised and it is wonderful to be able to support such a worthwhile local charity.”
The Recreation Ground has been provisionally booked for Saturday 2rd November next year in anticipation of another successful event.
