The 37-year-old marathon runner will be using the race as a training run ahead of the Virgin London Marathon, which will confirm who will take the third women’s spot in the Great Britain team for London 2012 behind Paula Radcliffe and Mara Yamauchi.
Liz set her half marathon PB in Bath and as the current course record holder, with a time of 69 minutes and 27 seconds, set in 2007, she will be keen to make her mark on the field and get in some important last minute preparations ahead of the final 2012 Games selection.
Now in its 31st year, the Bath Half Marathon has long been established as one of the premier road races in the UK Road Racing Calendar, with a quality GB and international field, and this year is proving to be no different.
Liz will be joined by a strong female elite field in Bath this year including Amy Whitehead, Susan Partridge, Helen Decker, Sonia Samuels and last year’s third place finisher, Louise Damen.
Andrew Taylor, Director of Running High, said: “The strength and depth of the elite field and the fact that the public entries have completely sold out again this year is a great testament to the Bath Half’s ability to provide a great course for all runners.
“We’re excited to welcome Liz as she aims for her Olympic dreams and we hope that her preparations in Bath this weekend will be worthwhile.”
With entries never failing to sell out well before race day, the Bath Half is solidifying its position as one of the most loved races in Britain, attracting runners from all over the UK and abroad, as well as a significant local contingent.
The two lap, 13.1 mile course will see around 12,000 runners take to the streets of Bath, as they take part in one of the largest charity fundraisers in the South West. The event is expected to raise in excess of £1.5million pounds this year for over 50 different local and national charities.
