The Met Office have issued a number of yellow weather warnings for the Bath area, with snow, heavy rain and wind expected this evening right thorough until Thursday morning.
Light snow is set to begin from around 6pm this evening, with visibility dropping and sleet and snow showers expected throughout the night.
The snow showers have potential to leave a covering of snow of 3 – 6 cm in places, especially on higher ground but also locally to lower levels too.
Icy patches will also form on untreated surfaces. The public are being warned to expected tricky driving conditions.
The Met Office’s chief forecaster said: “A cold westerly airstream will spread across the area on Tuesday evening, allowing frequent showers in the overnight period to fall as snow, especially over high ground.
“There is some uncertainty over how much snow will settle at low levels, and many places within the yellow area may miss the snow altogether.
“However, where snow does occur it is likely to be heavy and produce a covering quite quickly.”
The Met Office are also warning of heavy rain and strong winds on Wednesday, with a spell of heavy rainfall expected across many parts of western and southern England lasting from Wednesday afternoon until Thursday morning.
There are warnings of potential disruption to travel due to standing water and spray as well as localised flooding.
Gales are also expected to develop, with gusts of 50-65 mph likely throughout the Bath area.
