Bath MP Ben Howlett has thanked the people who contacted him about the terrorist incident at Westminster this week, saying ‘your warm words and messages have been extremely comforting to both me and my team’.
In a statement, Ben said: Everyday more than 10,000 people work in and around Westminster helping the public, schools, visitors, MPs, Peers and staff and everyday our brave security forces keep us safe.
“The murder of PC Keith Palmer was a tragic loss to everyone who knew him, said hello to him or posed for a picture with him.
“He put himself between a brutal terrorist and one of the oldest beacons of democracy, freedom and liberty anywhere in the world, paying the ultimate price.
“His sacrifice and bravery and that of his colleagues should never be forgotten and my heartfelt condolences go to his wife, children, family and friends. They sacrifice their own safety for ours and for that we are truly grateful.
“Given the number of overseas visitors who were injured or killed near Parliament, Bath is an internationally renowned tourist destination so I urge all residents to follow the security advice and remain vigilant. Should they see anything suspicious, please report it immediately to the Police.
“However, to reassure residents there are no current imminent threats or intelligence. These evil people want to destroy our way of life and the best thing that all residents can do is to stick to their normal routines.
“As the Prime Minister said earlier today to the House of Commons and last night on the steps of Downing Street “We are not afraid. Our resolve will never waver in the face of terrorism.”
