Road signs designed by safety-conscious pupils calling on motorists to drive carefully are going up outside the village school in Farmborough, near Bath.
Developer Lovell Homes, the company behind a new housing development in the village, teamed up with Farmborough Church Primary School and organised a competition inviting pupils to come up with the designs.
Lovell has now made the seven winning entries into permanent metal signs which are being installed on the railings outside the school.
Farmborough Church Primary co-headteacher Darren Roberts said: “We were very pleased to be able to run this competition with Lovell, as we give the utmost priority to ensuring the highest levels of road safety around our school.
“The children took part enthusiastically and came up with a lot of fantastic designs. The winners were definitely thrilled to receive their prizes and we are very grateful to Lovell for supplying these, along with book vouchers for our library.”
“As part of our community work in Farmborough, we organised a safety poster competition for the children at Farmborough Church Primary School,” said Lovell community liaison officer Bernadette Vickery.
“The school wanted to raise children’s awareness of cars driving past, and, just as importantly, to highlight the presence of the children to drivers. We picked out the strongest posters and have made them into signs to be put on the railings.
“The children’s designs convey a strong safety message and we were very impressed by the imagination and care they put into their ideas.”
The initiative is the latest in a series of community projects organised by Lovell at the school, including asking children to name the company’s development of homes for sale, Lavender Grove and hosting a visit by pupils to the site.
The award-winning Lavender Grove housing development is now fully sold out.
