Combe Down Primary School in Bath was evacuated this morning following a bomb threat, with all children being sent home whilst police set up a cordon around the site.
The children were quickly taken away from the school to Firs Field, with parents being sent text messages asking to collect them.
In a statement Avon and Somerset Police, who set up a cordon around the school, said that several police forces across the South West are currently investigating a number of malicious hoax communications to schools, and that the South West Counter Terrorism Intelligence Unit is currently investigating.
The spokesman said that anyone with information should contact the police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously via 0800 555 111.
Bath and North East Somerset Council released the following statement: “The school received a phone call this morning which threatened that there may have been a device on the premises.
“The school took immediate action to evacuate the pupils and staff, and called the Police.
“Parents have now safely collected all of their children, and the police have conducted a thorough inspection of the school.
“No device has been found and the Police believe it was a hoax.”
The headteacher of Combe Down Primary School, Richard Bullard, said: “Thank you so much to all parents/carers who responded to our evacuation message so promptly this morning.
“The children took their lead from staff, and evacuated in a quick and calm manner.
“We received a telephone call this morning which led to a full evacuation of the school. I was very proud of the fantastic way my team responded to the situation this morning, in such an exemplary way.
