Bath Spa University launched its new BSU Business Network at an event in Bath last week, hoping to give an insight into what the University has to offer across various business sectors.
The University works with a diverse range of businesses including start-ups and organisations in the commercial, public and not-for-profile sectors and this event was an opportunity to learn more about what the University has to offer.
A variety of businesses came along including Santander, Marshfield Bakery, Natural Theatre Company, Bath and North East Somerset Council, The Navitas Partnership, and Julian House, to learn how they can work with the University.
The event focused primarily on promoting the benefits of engaging with students through the University’s mentoring, placements and graduate internship schemes.
Attendees heard about a number of successful case studies including a presentation by Sam Espensen, Owner of Conversation Creation, who was joined by University Media Communications graduate Natalie Davies.
They spoke about the success of the University’s mentoring scheme which progressed to Natalie being employed as part of a placement scheme.
She is now working at the company as part of a six month internship.
Dave Jarman, Head of Careers and Enterprise at Bath Spa University, said: “It was an excellent event that illustrated the scale of opportunities for both the University interacting with the business community and for local business to make use of our amazing talent.
“We look forward to welcoming more businesses into the University.”
Due to the success of this first event, the University is planning another in 2016 which will focus on academic expertise and graduate recruitment.
Bath Spa University offers a number of services to local businesses including interns, student placements and live projects, mentoring opportunities, access to academic expertise and research, enterprise and facilities.
