Avon and Somerset Police have provided an update on their investigation following the discovery of a human foot in a Bath park, and said that forensic tests have so far proved inconclusive.
A member of the public discovered the foot in Weston Park East on Friday 19th February, prompting an investigation by the Major Crime Investigation Team.
Temporary Detective Inspector Paul Catton said: “We have carried out a number of detailed forensic tests on the foot but have been unable to get a full DNA profile.
“Something appears to be masking the DNA and we continue to carry out further tests as we seek to determine the limb’s origin.
“The foot has been x-rayed and we know it is a left foot which has been cut just above the ankle. There is no other damage and we can say for certain the foot has not been separated from the leg due to some sort of impact.
“There are indications that it was a man’s foot but due to the fact we have not been able to take a full DNA sample we can’t be sure.
“We continue to take the advice of the forensic experts carrying out the tests and have a number of leads still to explore.
“It is worth noting, that based on what we do know, we are not at this time linking the case to any crime or missing person.
“This is a complex and unusual investigation and we do not anticipate to be in a position to issue any further update for several weeks.”
