A new business partnership in Bath is hoping to make the most of the city’s historic architecture by giving it a new lease of life, following the recent renovation of a Grade I Listed building in the centre.
Bath-based property development firm Longacre has recently completed the high-profile refurbishment of neglected office and storage space in the centre of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The scheme, named One Bilbury Lane, saw a dilapidated and redundant five-floor Grade I Listed Building transformed into six luxury apartments and an exclusive penthouse apartment. Expertly renovated each apartment has a contemporary finish.
The two-year project had to contend with a difficult access arrangement and complex legal issues but Longacre was able to overcome these and create a discreet entrance worthy of a high quality residential development.
Longacre is owned by Mark Tyrrell, who previously worked as a director for The Unite Group and Deeley Freed Estates, and Julian Emery, who runs the family firm Emerys of Bath.
Combined they have more than 50 years’ of experience within the sector and are both highly respected within the industry.
The firm is already establishing a reputation for delivering high end contemporary schemes which are sympathetic to their setting.
Other schemes undertaken by the fledgling business include the renovation of a Grade II Listed property in Bath, which created 19 flats, and the reconfiguration of two vacant council-owned terraced properties, also in Bath, to create a collection of high quality apartments.
Mark said the completion at One Bilbury Lane was a significant moment for the company because of its early success, with majority of the apartments sold before building work was complete.
“These stylish apartments are a hidden jewel in the centre of Bath. We have been able to combine the old with the new, offering modern comfort but respecting the location of a World Heritage Site.
“This scheme is an example of what Longacre can do. We are able to unlock the more complicated developments and deliver something special.
“Julian and I are now keen to pursue new projects and nurture relationships with vendors or landowners wishing to sell or who might be interested in joint ventures.”
Julian added: “The purpose of Longacre is to bring together in one firm a good level of knowledge on all technical aspects and skills from the property development and construction sectors.
“We have now completed several schemes together in Bath and believe Longacre has started a good track record.”
