Bath’s fifth consecutive year as a Purple Flag city has been confirmed by the Association of Town & City Management, with the area once again surpassing the standards of excellence in managing the evening and night time economy.
During its November assessment the city was judged on a range of criteria including; wellbeing (welcoming, clean and safe), movement (a secure pattern of arrival, circulation and departure), a broad appeal (a vibrant choice and a rich mix), place (a stimulating destination and a vital place), and policy envelope (a clear aim and a common purpose).
Bath met or exceeded all five of these themes.
Speaking about the success, Louise Prynne, Chief Executive of the Bath Business Improvement District (BID) said: “This is a significant achievement for the city. Purple Flag accreditation is only awarded after a comprehensive audit of the city centre which is broad in scope.
“Only around 65 towns and cities can boast Purple Flag status, which shows the high level of excellence which needs to be achieved and the work needed to secure it.
“Businesses, police, B&NES council, BID Rangers and other agencies must all be congratulated on a culture of collaborative working that has delivered a vibrant, attractive, safe and well managed city centre experience for both residents and visitors.”
The Purple Flag accreditation has been made possible by financial and practical support from the Bath Business Improvement District and Bath & North East Somerset Council.
The closely integrated Nightwatch scheme continues to work with police and businesses to maintain the standard needed to secure renewal of Purple Flag status for the city.
