Concerns about the behaviour of a primary school teacher who was found to be abusing children he taught were not acted upon two years before he was arrested.
Nigel Leat, a 51 year old, was jailed indefinitely on Tuesday after he filmed himself sexually abusing children in his care at Hillside First School in Weston-Super-Mare.
A colleague of Leats’s did raise concerns about his behaviour in school but this was never passed to North Somerset Council, or followed up.
The head of the school has since been suspended and is under investigation during the serious case review.
Bristol Crown Court heard this morning that the school’s deputy head had spoken to Leat back in 2008 about his behaviour towards his female pupils – however no further action was taken.
